I discovered some very interesting facts about raw cacao powder, hemp seeds, chia seeds, zinc, iron, magnesium & antioxidants, then made a raw smoothie. Meant to say, “raw cacao powder has higher levels of antioxidants than blueberries…”βsorry about that π
Note: You can add more raw cacao powder or coconut sugar to this to make it more chocolate or sweeter.

I remember reading somewhere about how the Aztecs knew of the benefits of raw cacao – and it was recorded that they used to drink some form of raw drinking chocolate….so delicious!

Great post. I was trying to decide between raw cacoa powder or regular old coco powder from Azure, and compared the nutritional profiles of both right there on their website, and once I saw the difference side by side, I knew I had to buy the raw cacoa powder even though it costs so much more. I will still use regular coco powder in baking. Your smoothie sounds amazing, exept I am trying to not eat too much sugar. I wonder if it would still be good if I left out the coconut sugar and used more stevia? There is an AMAZING smoothie recipe on kristinsraw.blogspot.com called the Cherry Chocolate Bomb Shake, which makes me want to have a cherry tree so that I can make it every day! I like to add 1 Tbsp. cacoa nibs at the end of the blending time to have something to chew.
Thanks for all of your great information.

Thanks Jennifer!
Thanks Stephanie! So interesting!
Thanks Kelli! Coconut sugar is low glycemic index like stevia, but you could try it without, or sub your preferred sweetener π I can’t seem to get the blog you mentioned to work. Could you try giving it to us again? Thanks!

The blog is called Kristen’s Raw, it looks like I used an “i” in the link instead of an “e”. Kristensraw.blogspot.com.
I know that stevia doesn’t raise your blood sugar. Does coconut sugar not raise your blood sugar either? Or is it more compareable to agave, in that it doesn’t raise it too much? I use coconut sugar in some things that I want to not add refined sugar to, but I don’t know much more about it than that.
Have a great night!

Hey Kelly – How much are you talking about? You mention that raw cacao is 8 percent of your daily intake, but how much do you need to have in order to hit that?
Thanks for this great tidbit. I am so thankful for what you do!

Thanks Kelli! Coconut sugar isn’t as low as stevia on the glycemic index, but it’s still really low, compared to other sugars.
Thanks Maggie! That is for 2.5 tbsp raw cacao powder.
Night my dears!
