Sometimes I want to get my protein quickly and easily. And sometimes it’s not about protein, it’s about me just wanting a smoothie =) I think I lived on smoothies as a child and teen. Either for health reasons or not, there’s no better way than this vanilla shake.
When I first saw hemp protein powder I got excited. Hemp is so good for you. In addition to 11 grams of protein, and 14 grams of fiber, one serving of this powder is also packed with 600 mg of omega-3, 1800 mg of omega-6, and 300 mg of omega-9. Love it!
I must warn you though: If you’re not a person who likes protein powder then you may not be a fan. I personally grew up drinking protein powder, and the girls and I adore the stuff. My hubby however, was never into it. He doesn’t like the texture.
And now on to my new favorite vanilla shake!
Dairy-Free Vanilla Shake
vegan, dairy-free, refined sugar-free
Add to blender (I use Blendtec):
2 tbsp plain cashews (I use organic cashew pieces)
1 tbsp almond butter
2 to 4 pitted dates, depending on your taste
1/4 cup coconut milk
1/4 cup Manitoba Harvest, Organic Hemp Pro Fiber
about 6 ice cubes
1 cup water
Puree till creamy and smooth. Serve with these cool stainless straws.
Makes one large or two small shakes.
♥, Kelly

I’ve always meant to try hemp milk, and now with this recipe, I think I’m just going to have to track down some of this. I looooove coconut sugar, and this shake sounds amazing!

Hi,
Thanks for posting your recipes. I have a lot of friends who are sensitive to gluten and I’m definitely going to try your recipes.
I’ve been using http://www.caloricious.com/ to search for products that are gluten free and get coupons for products I use all the time. You should check it out!

Oh this sounds SO yummy!! I am definitely going to try it. Palm sugar is my sweetener of choice and I am glad to know that there is a vanilla hemp protein powder that is sweetened with it!

I make protein balls with the Hemp Vanilla Protein and they are a delicious way to get your protein on the go.
1/2 cup Manitoba Harvest Vanilla Protein
2 tbsp raw organic peanut butter (no sugar or salt added)
1 tbsp raw organic blanched slivered almonds
2 tbsp organic shredded coconut
2 tbsp vanilla agave nectar
roll into balls and keep in fridge…..

Kelly, this looks and sounds amazing — can’t wait to try it! I wonder if my local grocery store carries the vanilla hemp powder (they do have a lot of healthier protein powders). Thanks for sharing, as always 🙂
Merry Christmas,

I got so excited when i saw this. My husband needs a good protein powder but we need to keep the sugar out of it. I dashed off to the companies website and was looking at the product and saw in the ingredient list that they use evaporated cane sugar. Have they updated the product? Changed the ingredients? Here’s the link to the product page I was looking at:

That’s really strange! Mine only lists the ingredients I put in the post. No evaporated cane sugar. It even boasts on the back, “organic palm sugar, a low Glycemic index sugar source.” I hope they just switched to palm sugar from cane sugar, and not the other way around!

I have a huge bag of hemp seed in my freezer. Do you think I could just soak some overnight and throw it in with the nuts, some palm sugar and vanilla? Actually sounds kind of good, I’m pretty sure they’d break down in the Vitamix.

This sounds wonderful. I just linked to it from my blog. Also, I wanted to thank you again for your first cookbook, which I won in a giveaway. I have loved discovering your recipes 🙂

Ok, I checked at a natural food market this weekend and found this product. Unfortunately it listed cane sugar, not palm or coconut. I haven’t written the company yet, but it looks like they may have changed their recipe. Very sad if they did.

I wish I had one of these right now. I am having a yucky day and I just don’t feel like eating. I bet this would make me feel right as rain.

I just slurped this down and loved it. I am searching for high protein vegetarian options, free of soy and dairy and gluten. I am in my second trimester and totally sick of animal protein… so I am gathering all the options I can. Thanks.
