Earlier this week, my friend Lexie left a message on my phone, saying they had been to Larkburger in Fort Collins (half way between her house and mine), and that she thought there was one in Boulder too. She said I had to go and check it out.
I cruised over to Lexie’s site to check out her Larkburger review, and immediately called down to my husband (who works from home), “Honey! Can you come with us to Boulder today? For lunch? For burgers?!” Not that I had any doubt what his answer would be. My husband is all carnivore. I’m the one who only really eats beef when I’m preggers, which I am 🙂
But you don’t have to eat beef to eat at Larkburger. They also have turkey burgers, and portabella mushroom with grilled onions for vegetarians. You can go caveman/Paleo, and get any of these wrapped in lettuce (primo lettuce there, by the way), or here’s the kicker… They have Sweet Escape gluten-free buns!!!
If you’ve missed me gushing over Sweet Escape before, I’ll gush more now 🙂 First, I have to say that this family business is located in none other than my own town of Longmont. That makes me very proud. Secondly, Sweet Escape rocks. You can eat their pizza crust at Martino’s (love them), and lots of other places too. When you’re near Red Rock you must go to Abrusci’s. Abrusci’s gluten-free Italian menu (featuring Sweet Escape bread and pasta) is most likely the biggest and the best in the world. Seriously.
And, as Lexie pointed out, Larkburger is very eco-conscious, like most places in Boulder, and many places all over Colorado. They compost, and they use unbleached paper, wind power, and reclaimed lumber.
And what did we see as we were heading home from Larkburger? The Rudi’s Gluten-Free truck! Andy snapped this photo (I was driving). It made me smile.

That is a thing of beauty! I think I’d cry if I could get food like that while eating out.

We love Larkburger, too! When the Boulder location opened, we about died and went to burger heaven. More than two years ago, we wrote a similarly gushing review of the original location in Edwards:

The Sweet Escapes GF buns must be new. They didn’t have that option when we were still living in CO. Now I know we’ll have to return to Larkburger on our next visit back to Boulder!
Cheers, Pete

I need to finally go to the Larkburger in Fort Collins. I go to Fort Collins several times a week, to do things with Pele and entertain her (we like to go to the adorable kid’s toy store in Old Town Fort Collins called Dandelion Toys/Clothes Pony…you should go there if you haven’t! There are lots of ‘stations’ set up for kids to play in and there are lots of neat things to look at) so there’s no excuse for me not to go there.
I didn’t realize they had GF options until I looked them up online a couple weeks ago. But now I have to go for sure!
Oh something kind of funny that I thought you’d appreciate. I went to Martino’s in Lafayette one day (my sister and her fiance live in Lafayette) on your recommendation and we loved it.
When we arrived and said we were there for the GF/CF pizza the owner said ‘Oh, did the Coconut lady send you?’ (he remembered most of your title but not all of it! I laughed and said yes. He pointed to a couple sitting down already and said they were here on your recommendation, too!
So grats on spreading the word. 😀

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks larkburger is a find! 🙂 I keep seeing in my mind Miles throwing his head back to relish in the lip smackin’ good fries!

You guys have so many great places to eat out there. We hardly ever go out to eat here! 🙂

Thanks for another glowing review, Kelly. I just love your restaurant reviews. And…by the way…I made your pumpkin pancakes for breakfast this morning and they were a HUGE HIT. I paired them with your banana chocolate chip ice cream (substituting Turkish figs for dates) and it was an equally huge hit. We had duelling spoons over that one 🙂

These burgers look absolutely wonderful!!!! Do they actually advertise the burgers as Paleo? I would love to find more Paleo restaurants that serve meat I feel safe eating. Thanks for sharing. Now, I just need to make it to Colorado.
Kelly says
Cathy, They don’t say Paleo, but the menu does suggest that any of the burgers can be wrapped in lettuce. And the lettuce they have is nice big pieces 🙂

I absolutely love Larkburger too! I live in Colorado Springs so the one in Greenwood Village is closest to me…
I adore the lettuce wrapped burger with an occasional side of the truffle fries! Isn’t is blissful when we can actually find an allergy friendly restaurant!!?? Thanks for sharing, everyone should try Larkburger!
