We’ve spent the past week in the San Francisco area. My book signing here was on Monday, but my next event in Ashland, OR isn’t scheduled until this Friday. So, that meant we got to spend extra time here with friends.
We arrived in SF on the 10th and stayed with our friend who was Ashley’s occupational therapist back when we all lived in Maryland. Andy spent most of Friday catching up on his client work. The rest of us went out for girl-time.
On Saturday Andy and Zoe drove to the Alternative Press Expo (where Zoe met one of her favorite comic book artists), while the rest of us went to Cuisinett (YUM) in San Carlos and a local art and wine festival. That evening we switched houses, staying with dear Colorado friends who also moved to the Bay area.

On Sunday morning we went to Zest, an all-gluten-free bakery in San Carlos. There we met Michelle of Nom Nom Paleo and her family. They were sooo nice. After some delicious treats, our friends lead us all to a nearby playground.

With playground time over we said goodbye to Michelle and her family, and headed to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. We all had a blast peering into the tide pools and playing on the beach. I am crazy for the beach.

Monday afternoon we drove to the California Academy of Sciences. There’s lots to see, but we focused on their aquarium. Ginger loved the frogs and the anaconda. I’m a big fan of sea nettles.

For dinner we visited Underdog Organic, an organic hot dog place not far from the bookstore. They have a wide variety of sausages, and they are very gluten-free-friendly. I would go there all the time if we lived here.

Monday evening was my book signing at Green Apple Books. It is such a charming store!

On Tuesday we went up to the Ferry Building Marketplace. What a fantastic place for lunch and hanging out.

We got “salami cones” and ate as we walked. Then we sat down by Book Passage to enjoy the view of the bay and eat salad with salmon. For dessert we bought some amazing gluten-free pastries from Mariposa (the bear claw—wow). They’re not Paleo. But hey, we’re on vacation 🙂

This Friday we’ll be in Ashland, Oregon for my next book signing. It’s at Bloomsbury Books at 7 pm.
I hope to see you there!
